Understand TuneLockr

What is TuneLockr ?

TuneLockr helps artists, songwriters, beatmakers and producers to manage several stages of their creations’ lifecycle: protect a work, then manage its use with licences and, soon, monitor certain detected uses.

The deposit, certificate and licences are available today. The Monitoring module is announced as coming soon.

Does TuneLockr replace SACEM or a collective management organisation?

No. TuneLockr and a collective management society do not have the same role.

TuneLockr enables you, for example, to document the existence of a version of your creation and its precedence. A collective management society can, depending on your situation, assist with declaration and management of certain rights. The two approaches can be complementary.

Does TuneLockr offer legal advice?

No. TuneLockr provides documentation, management, and tracking tools relating to your creations.

For specific legal questions, complex contracts or significant disputes, it might be necessary to consult a legal professional.

PROTECT

Protect a creation

Available
How do I protect a creation with TuneLockr?

From the deposit process, add the relevant creation and fill in the requested information.

TuneLockr then associates the deposit with a date, the information provided, and a digital fingerprint corresponding to the version of the file submitted.

Make a deposit →
What does the TuneLockr certificate prove?

The certificate ties together a date, a cryptographic fingerprint, and the deposit information to a specific version of your file.

It helps establish a timeline and can be kept among the useful evidence in the event of a dispute. It does not, by itself, determine the final ownership of rights.

Why should you deposit a creation before sharing it?

A demo, beat, topline or production can circulate quickly between collaborators, clients, labels and platforms.

Depositing the relevant version before sending allows you to keep dated proof that exactly matches the shared file.

Do Spotify, YouTube or SoundCloud replace a deposit?

Publishing online can help to establish a date of publication, but does not meet the same need as a deposit specifically linked to your file and its digital fingerprint.

What types of creations can I deposit?

TuneLockr can be used to document different elements of a music project: song, beat, instrumental, demo, lyrics, score, stems, visual or working files that are compatible with the process provided.

The formats and limits actually accepted are those indicated in the application at the time of submission.

Do my creations become public after a submission?

No. Making a TuneLockr submission does not constitute a public release of your music.

Your creation remains linked to your account and to the deposit information.

Can I indicate co-authors or collaborators?

Yes, where the submission process allows, you can specify the people involved to better document the project.

This information does not replace an agreement on the division of rights or a contract between collaborators.

Can I get started for free ?

Yes. TuneLockr offers a first free submission, with no bank card required, so you can try the process and generate your first certificate.

LICENCE

Licences & monetisation

Available
What is a TuneLockr licence for?

A licence allows you to formalise the permission granted to a person or company to use one of your creations under defined terms.

It may be free of charge or paid.

Do I need to protect a work before creating a licence?

The module starts from a creation already present in your TuneLockr library.

You therefore select the relevant work before configuring the licence terms.

What terms can I define in a licence?

The module notably allows you to define the recipient, project, authorised uses, territory, duration and whether it is free or paid.

Rules related to AI and certain advanced options can also be specified.

Can I create a free licence?

Yes. The module allows you to formalise a permission without payment.

This can be useful for a collaboration, a partner, or a project for which you wish to document the terms without requesting payment.

How does a paid licence work?

You define the requested price as well as the terms of the permission.

The recipient can review these terms before making a payment. The activation of a paid licence takes place once the system confirms the payment.

Does the recipient have to create a TuneLockr account?

The process uses a public page accessible via a dedicated link.

The recipient can therefore review the licence terms without creating a TuneLockr account.

What are the main statuses of a licence?
Pending The licence is still waiting for an action from the recipient. Active The licence has been activated. Expired The scheduled period has ended. Revoked The licence has changed status following revocation.
Is a licence document available?

The procedure includes a document summarising the recorded information and terms for the licence.

The history of the main events related to its lifecycle can also be retained.

04
MONITOR

Music monitoring

Coming soon
i
Music monitoring coming soon.

It is not yet available for activation. The elements below describe the planned operation.

What will music monitoring be used for?

It will enable you to track a work and to retrieve information about it in TuneLockr including potential matches detected.

These signals can then be reviewed in their context.

Discover music monitoring →
Will TuneLockr automatically detect plagiarism?

No. A technical match does not automatically equate to a legal conclusion regarding plagiarism, infringement or unlawful use.

TuneLockr will present signals and their context to help you review them.

What is the Rights Inbox?

The Rights Inbox is the space designed to gather detected signals and organise them according to their status.

You will be able to distinguish the items that need reviewing from those uses which may be covered by a known licence.

What does 'covered use' mean?

This means that an authorisation or known licence in TuneLockr appears to match the context of the detected use.

This is a status to help you understand the data, not an automatic legal decision.

What actions can I take after a detection?

The designed workflow allows you to review the signal, indicate that you have authorised the use, ignore it, create a licence if relevant or open a documented case.

05
AI RIGHTS

Artificial intelligence & rights

Can I set restrictions on AI-related usage in a licence?

Yes. The Licences module provides for specific permissions related to certain AI uses.

The aim is for these rights to be explicitly stated in the licence terms rather than left implicit.

What does 'AI Training' mean?

In the context of a TuneLockr licence, this permission concerns whether or not authorisation is granted to use the work in an AI model training or adaptation process.

What does 'AI Generation' mean?

This permission is intended to clarify whether certain uses of the work in a generative process are permitted by the licence.

What is the forthcoming 'AI Detection' feature? Coming soon

TuneLockr is also planning a separate feature for the detection and analysis of signals related to artificial intelligence.

It is still to come. A dedicated page will provide details of how it works and highlight its limitations upon launch.

06
OFFERS

Pricing & payments

Where can I view TuneLockr pricing?

The available offers and pricing conditions are presented on the Pricing page.

See TuneLockr offers →
Does a free licence have any service charges?

The model does not charge any TuneLockr service fees when a licence is granted for free.

What fees apply to a paid licence?

The current model for TuneLockr licences applies a service fee of 10 % when a paid licence is actually paid for via the platform.

Any fees relating to the payment provider may be separate.

How is the payment for a licence secured?

The process separates the payment from the activation of the licence.

A paid licence must not be considered active just because the browser returns from a payment page: the status must be confirmed server-side.

Do public licence pages reveal my account?

A public licence page is designed to display the necessary information for the relevant licence, and not to provide access to your personal TuneLockr area.

Do I need to share my login details to send a licence or certificate?

No. Never share your login details.

Use the sharing features or the designated documents for this purpose.
